“They should be ashamed of themselves”

DISY is adopting far-right arguments and they should be ashamed of themselves, said the General Secretary of AKEL Andros Kyprianou when asked to comment on references made about AKEL candidate for the European elections Niyazi Kizilyurek.

He added that what they are saying deserves to be completely scorned and stressed that the day will come when they would be embarrassed given that history is recording the behavior of the far-right governing “Democratic Rally” party, who is accusing Niyazi Kizilyurek that if he is elected he will turn against the interests of Cyprus.

The General Secretary of AKEL, speaking to “Astra” radio station, reiterated that Mr. Kizilyurek on the AKEL European elections ballot does not represent the Turkish Cypriot community, that he lives in the free areas and supports a bizonal, bicommunal federal solution.

He underlined, however, that Nikos Anastasiades was the first to start the onslaught of criticism with his reference to “borrowed votes” of Turkish Cypriots.

Mr. Kyprianou also wondered why Niyazi Kizilyurek could do no wrong when he was a consultant to Nikos Anastasiades and Glafkos Clerides.

The General Secretary of AKEL stressed that DISY, as a result of the pressure being exerted by society due to the outbreak of numerous scandals, is now deliberately trying to change the agenda of discussion and he expressed the wish that the mass media should focus on the people’s day-to-day problems.
