The government must at long last assume its responsibilities for the collapse of the Coop Bank

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 13 April 2019, Nicosia

Yesterday in the House of Representatives, a strong majority, with the exception of the ruling party DISY and the ultra-right ELAM party, passed a resolution urging the government to assume the grave political responsibilities the Finding on the collapse of the Cyprus Cooperative Bank assigned to it.

The resolution echoes and expresses the will of society, which is indignant at the loss of one of our people’s greatest social achievements, and calls on the government to take on its responsibilities.

Even belatedly, let the government get in line with popular sentiment, for once take on its responsibilities and stop always shifting responsibility on others. This is what it is doing on all issues.

This government’s actions are leaving it exposed to the people who can no longer endure the lack of sensitivity, mockery and authoritarianism.
