AKEL calls for mass participation in commemorative events to honour Hero Martyrs Mishaoulis-Kavazoglou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 5th April 2019, Nicosia

AKEL and the mass organisations of the Left will yet again pay tribute to the Heroes of the friendship between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, Dervis Ali Kavazoglou and Kostas Mishaoulis, who were assassinated on 11th April 1965 by the extreme-right Turkish-Cypriot terrorist organization TMT.

The sacrifice of Kavazoglou-Mishaoulis is the symbol of rapprochement and the common struggle of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots for the salvation of our common Homeland. The events to commemorate the two Hero Martyrs of our people are a reminder of our duty to continue the struggle against the Turkish occupation, for the reunification of our homeland.

Today when the ultra-right and chauvinism are raising their heads, it is even more imperative to defend the historical truth; to recall the sacrifice of the heroes of the friendship between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots; to remember that nationalism and chauvinism in both communities drowned Cyprus in blood and were the best servants for the execution of imperialism’s plans on our island.

AKEL calls on all the people to participate in the commemorative events to honour the Hero Martyrs Kavazoglou and Mishaoulis, which will reach a climax in the events being organized on Sunday 7th April 2019 in Dali.
