On the organization of a World Youth Summit in the occupied areas

The organization of a world youth summit in the occupied territories by various international Non-Governmental Organizations represents yet another attempt to upgrade the illegal pseudo-state.

AKEL denounces the organization of this meeting, just like any other attempt to upgrade the pseudo-state. At the same time, we stress that the only way to end the ongoing occupation and de facto partition of Cyprus and repel all attempts to recognize a separate entity on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus is the commitment to the solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of a Bi-Zonal Bi-communal Federation with political equality, as defined in the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

The organizers of this session are invoking the UN as their collaborator. As AKEL, we consider it inconceivable for the UN to have a participation in an activity that is in contradiction with its own resolutions and we expect from the International Organization that it will refute it.

We call on the government to reflect deeply on where things are being led to so long as the barren passage of time on the Cyprus problem continues.
