The President and DISY Leader must answer if they share DISY MP’s statement in favour of union with Greece

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou on the references to union with Greece by DISY MP Eleni Stavrou

DISY Member of Parliament Eleni Stavrou has given an oath and sworn to uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus. If her view is that the Republic of Cyprus must be dissolved and united with Greece – a slogan of a bygone era which has contributed enormously to leading our country towards destruction – then the President of her Party must give an answer if they embrace what Mrs. Stavrou says. We should remind everyone that Mrs. Stavrou, in addition to being a Member of Parliament for the ruling DISY party, has indeed expressed her will to be nominated on the DISY ballot for the upcoming European elections.

The President of the Republic must provide answers as well. Mrs. Stavrou is an advisor to the President on geostrategic issues and the President must state his position on the views of his advisor – unless the President and the President of DISY A.Neophytou, in the run-up to the European elections are keeping silent in order to pick up votes from the extreme-right in the upcoming elections. It is evident that for DISY the issue of collecting votes is more important than the protection of the Republic of Cyprus.
