AKEL on guarantees and rights of intervention

AKEL is the only party remaining consistent to the long-standing position for demilitarization

Declaration by AKEL CC.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18th September 2017, Nicosia

AKEL does not accept that the solution of the Cyprus problem should include guarantees and rights of intervention. We want the abolition of the guarantees and rights of intervention, as well as the withdrawal of all the occupation troops.

AKEL is the only party remaining consistent to the long-standing position for demilitarization, which is also included in the unanimous communiqué of the 2009 National Council.

We criticize Mr. Anastasiades because of his erroneous handlings at Crans Montana he didn’t take advantage of the possibilities that had been formed to fulfill this goal and allowed Turkey to leave the Conference without responsibilities being apportioned on it for its stand and behavior, neither by the UN, nor by the European Union.
