AKEL on the Resolution for the renewal of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus mandate

The resolution adopted by the UN Security Council basically concerns the procedural issue of the renewal of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus mandate and as such does not contain surprises and essentially does not differ from previous resolutions of a similar nature. Of course, the reference to a review, no matter how much this is due to a general policy, must be a matter of concern.
The references to the Crans Montana Conference on Cyprus were short and descriptive. Regarding the substance of the matter, a report of the UN Secretary-General will follow recording events to the Security Council, and that is where we must focus our attention on.
It is important, at this precise moment that the President of the Republic undertakes initiatives, so that the procedure won’t collapse. We need the procedure to continue from where it left off in Crans Montana, utilizing the Gutierrez framework, which, among other things, talks about the abolition of guarantees and the rights of intervention.
In this regard, the reference made in the resolution that the UN remains at the disposal of the parties within the framework of its role is important.
