AKEL addresses an appeal for prudence and calm to prevail in anticipation of the President’s briefing on developments
Statement by Stefanos Stephanou, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C Press Office, 19th October 2016, Nicosia
In view of the developments surrounding the Cyprus problem, it is obvious that certain circles and forces are using the well-known method of leaking some of the many documents that exist, with the clear intention of creating distorted depictions and perceptions and subsequently to criticize and wage attacks.
The situation that was provoked yesterday as a result of a leaked old document in which the positions of both sides aren’t even distinguished, is unacceptable and damaging. It provokes unnecessary concerns, tensions and recriminations on the domestic front, confusing and discouraging citizens.
Once again AKEL addresses an appeal to the political forces to conduct low-key debates and for prudence and calm to prevail, in anticipation of the briefing on the developments in the negotiations by the President of the Republic.
We stress that the ultimate judge on the solution of the Cyprus problem, if and provided that this is achieved, will be the people before whom an overall solution will be put in separate simultaneous referenda.
