On the occasion of the beginning of the intensive negotiations, which was decided at the New York meeting, AKEL stresses that the President of the Republic must go to the negotiations well prepared with positions based on the agreed framework and the principles of the solution of the Cyprus problem. It is also important that the President of the Republic be creative at the negotiating table and actively demonstrate the Greek Cypriot side’s good will and determination to reach a solution as soon as possible..
At this crucial juncture in the ongoing efforts for a solution, the political forces are called upon to show self-restraint and consensus, even through their differences and to be supportive in the efforts to achieve a solution.
As always, AKEL will continue to behave in a responsible and serious manner with the hope and aspiration that eventually progress will be recorded in the negotiations that will pave the way for reaching a mutually agreed solution.
