AKEL sends condolences on the passing away of JVP historical leader

 

The General Secretary of the CC AKEL Andros Kyprianou has sent today a condolence letter to the leadership of the National Liberation Front (JVP) on the passing away of the historical leader of the Party Samawansa Amarasinge. You may read the main part of the letter below:

“It is with deep sorrow that we received the news of the passing away of the historical leader of JVP comrade Samawansa Amarasinge. Please, accept the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Central Committee AKEL and personally myself, as well as of the thousands of militants and members of our Party.

Comrade Samawansa will always be remembered as a sincere, principled, consistent and devoted communist and internationalist, a fighter for social progress, national and social liberation. He has been a courageous fighter passing years in illegality, poverty and migration. He spent a life devoted to the work of the Party being a teacher for the thousands followers of JVP. 

I had the chance to meet him personally several times in the past including his participations in AKEL Congresses and his last visit to Cyprus in November of 2011.

Please, convey our deepest condolences to his family, comrades and friends. Once more, permit me to express my sincere grief for his passing away.”
