Actions undermine the negotiation procedure for a solution

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 24th May 2016, Nicosia

cyprus NATO cprAKEL denounces the action of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to invite the Turkish Cypriot leader to a dinner within the framework of the World Humanitarian UN Summit which is taking place in Istanbul. The only tangible results corresponding unacceptable actions bring is the undermining of the negotiation procedure for a solution of the Cyprus problem and in no way do they bring about the recognition or upgrading of the pseudo-state. Also unacceptable and totally counter-productive was the action of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus Mr. Espen Barth Eide to arrange a meeting of Mr. Akinci with the UN Secretary-General on the margins of the summit.
