The mess of contradictions, regressions and the President’s broken pledges on privatizations continues
Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 4th February 2016, Nicosia
The President of the Republic in his recent interview added yet another sequence in the mess of contradictions, regressions and broken pledges and ultimately to the ongoing ridicule of the people in relation to the issue of privatizations.
With his declaration that he has remained consistent to its election pledge not to promote the privatization of the profitable Semi-governmental organizations, the President of the Republic inadvertently included himself among those who his own Finance Minister just recently accused as “anti-reform” and “populists”.
However, since the issue of protecting public wealth and assets from DISY party’s dogmatism and the sanctioned looting is a very serious matter, and given that the statements of the government and ruling circles on the issue have no credibility whatsoever, the only remaining option is to wage struggles and fight to reverse the ongoing government machinations. Part of our effort remains the draft Bill which we tabled with other opposition parties for an immediate suspension of the law on privatizations.
