Concerns regarding the carrying out of a hydrogen bomb test by the DPR of Korea

As AKEL, we express our concern regarding the carrying out of a hydrogen bomb test by the DPR of Korea, if this is indeed the case, and all that this implies for people themselves and the environment.

The use of nuclear weapons probably constitutes the greatest danger to humanity today, regardless of the country that possesses them.

Incidents referring to the 6th and 9th August 1945, that is to say the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, cannot and must not ever happen again. Humanity cannot and must not relive the consequences of a nuclear holocaust.

At the same time such acts lead to even more instability in the already tense situation in the region of northeast Asia.

Despite the fact that nuclear weapons have proven to represent a danger to humanity, NATO and the governments of the United States, Great Britain and other nuclear countries, instead of abolishing their nuclear arsenals, are upgrading them. In addition, they permit countries with which they have interests to develop nuclear capabilities, while on the contrary as far as other countries are concerned with which they have conflicting interests they are attempting to prevent them by using any means, as in the case of DPR of North Korea too.

AKEL considers that denuclearization, the complete disarmament by all countries of weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical and other weapons, is the only way for peace to prevail and to prevent wars and threats in the region.
