Church decision harks to other eras gone by

AKEL expresses its regret at the decision taken by the Church to excommunicate in the year 2015 a citizen. This anachronistic decision harks to other eras gone by when the right to free speech and expression of a different opinion was questioned.

Regardless of our well-known political and ideological differences with Mr. Andreas Pitsillides, AKEL expresses its strong belief that freedom of speech cannot be questioned by any institution, but constitutes a gain in a modern and democratic society.
