100th anniversary of the foundation of the Communist Party of Chile

 

 

On 5-8 December 2012 the Communist Party of Chile brought the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of its foundation to a culmination with two major forward looking events evidencing the creative and militant spirit of the party and its youth: An international seminar on “Building Ideas for the Chile that we Want” organized in cooperation with the Institute of Sciences Alejandro Lipschutz, ICAL, with guests from Latin and Central America as well as Europe. And a Popular Concert, held in the Estadio Nacional for the first time after the 1973 fascist coup d’état. Under the motto “Let’s go, a new Chile is possible” and with the participation of a large number of artists that in one or other way have linked their work and lives with the struggles of the Chilean people, the concert gathered tens of thousands of people in memory of all those who lost their lives in defending democracy, and in building confidence in the struggle for a new Chile.

Sharing the bitter experience of a foreign orchestrated military coup d’état held just 10 months following the one against President Alliente and Unidad Popular, AKEL was represented in both events. Vera Polycarpou, member of the C.C. and the International
Relations and European Affairs Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL, represented AKEL.
