Giorgos Loukaides was born in 1968 in the occupied village of Pyroi and lives in Aglantzia. He is married to Kalomira Ioannou and they have two children.

He is a graduate of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia in Thesaloniki Greece, majoring in Political Studies and Diplomacy.

He has been a member of the Central Secretariat and the Political Bureau of AKEL since 2013. He was General Secretary of EDON, Press Spokesperson of the C.C. of AKEL, as well as Head of the Education and International Relations Bureaus of the Party.

He was also a leading militant of the Pancyprian Committee of School Students (PEOM) and the Progressive Movement of Students, Secretary of the Student Section of EDON, member of the Board of the Student Union of the Higher Technological Institute (ATI), General Secretary of the Pancyprian Federation of Student Associations (POFNE), member of the Council of the Cyprus Youth Organization (ONEK) and AKEL Municipal Councilor of Aglantzia.

In May 2011 he was elected Member of Parliament with AKEL Left New Forces. He was re-elected in 2016 and assumed the duties of Parliamentary Representative. He is Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment and a member of the Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Parliamentary Committee.

He is a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, of which he was, inter alia, Vice-President, and a member of the Bureau of the Left Group (UEL).
