With enthusiasm, unity, and optimism, AKEL enters the battle of the May 2026 parliamentary elections with a strong candidate list that embraces the people of AKEL and the Left, but also every progressive Cypriot citizen. This is the message of today’s Plenary Session of the Central Committee of AKEL, which unanimously approved the AKEL-Left-Social Alliance candidate list for the May 2026 parliamentary elections.

The candidate list was formed through a broad democratic procedure, with the participation of thousands of AKEL members and friends who had the opportunity to nominate and submit candidates. The procedure continued with electoral procedures in each district, through which the candidates were selected by secret ballot, and today’s ratification by the Central Committee completed the procedure in a jubilant atmosphere.

The AKEL Left Social Alliance ballot consists of honest, capable people who are ready to work both inside and outside the House of Representatives for the demands and values of the Left and for the contemporary needs of our society. It bears the hallmark of a significant increase in the participation of women and young people, combines experience and renewal, and expresses the common path of struggle of AKEL, the Left, and the Social Alliance.

Characteristically, 70% of the candidates are running for the first time, the participation of women has increased to 38%, 20% of candidates come from the Social Alliance, and the average age of candidates is 43, with candidates ranging from 23 to 65 years old.
