Toumazos Tsielepis: The Greek Cypriot side must move from words to deeds
31st October 2020, ‘Astra’ radio station
Speaking to ‘Astra’ radio station in the morning, Toumazos Tsielepis spoke about a harsh reality in terms of the given situation surrounding the Cyprus problem after three and a half years of inactivity and the new fait accompli that have been created.
The Head of Cyprus Problem Office of AKEL and member of the Political Bureau of the Party explained that this time there is an urgent need to ascertain whether the rhetoric by Tatar in favor of a two states solution is an irreversible position or whether there is still hope for a solution of bi-zonal, bi-communal federation
Toumazos Tsielepis pointed out that the only way for the Greek Cypriot side to find out is to be ready for the resumption of the negotiation procedure from where it had remained at Crans Montana and within the framework set by the Secretary General of the United Nations.
The AKEL Political Bureau member added that the Greek Cypriot side must stop pursuing the policy it has been following in recent years and at the same time imposing new terms and preconditions.
Toumazos Tsielepis stated that this is the duty of the Greek Cypriot side and only then will the question be answered if we can go back in time (from where we had remained at Crans Montana).
At the same time, he pointed out that great attention must be paid to what the Secretary-General of the United Nations himself states, given that there is a possibility that the procedure for the resumption of substantive negotiations will not proceed.
