The government’s distortion of AKEL’s positions serves no purpose
AKEL replies to the Government Spokesman

In relation to the Government Spokesman’s attempt to refute the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL, we point out that it is President Anastasiades himself who stated at the meeting of the National Council that he would demand, in addition to the Terms of Reference, the explicit inclusion of the issue of the abolition of guarantees as a response to Mr. Akinci’s demand for a positive Turkish Cypriot vote for every decision in all bodies.
We remind the Government Spokesperson that AKEL supported and supports the relevant convergence for effective participation. Besides, that is precisely why we have repeatedly called on President Anastasiades to return to the convergence that provides for a positive vote in the Ministerial Cabinet, and as regards Mr. Akinci that he should return to the convergence that stipulates that as far as low-level policy bodies are concerned there will be a positive vote only in some of them and not in all.
In the face of the critical times our country is currently going through, the government ruling forces are called upon not to engage in the distortion of AKEL’s positions. It doesn’t serve any purpose.
