Not a single euro for Grivas
Who voted for and who voted against the amendment submitted by AKEL
17 December 2025
The amendment tabled by AKEL during the debate on the 2026 State Budget generated a confrontation in Parliament. It called for the complete elimination of all state expenditure related to the promotion of the memory of Georgios Grivas, the leader of EOKA B.
The amendment stipulated that not a single euro from public funds would be allocated to activities such as events, memorials, monuments, publications, or any other actions related to honoring Grivas. According to AKEL, this initiative is part of the need, as it states, to prevent the “falsification of history” and the “glorification of treason”.
AKEL, EDEK, and DIPA MP’s, as well as independent MPs Alexandra Attalidou and Charalambos Theopemptou, voted in favor of the amendment.
On the other hand, the parliamentary groups of DISY, DIKO, and far-right ELAM, as well as MPs Andreas Apostolou, Andreas Themistokleous, Michalis Giakoumis, and Stavros Papadouris, voted against it.
