Cyprus ranks 21st in the EU table on gender equality
Statement by AKEL MP Skevi Koukouma
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 10th November 2020, Nicosia
The Report issued by the European Institute for Gender Equality for the year 2020 confirms all that women in Cyprus have been going through in recent years. That is to say, a complete lack of vision for the goal of attaining equality, actions and strategies on paper and no budgets to fulfill these goals.
In the Report, Cyprus appears not only stagnant, but records setbacks in areas such as employment, education and the economic situation of both sexes.
The Anastasiades-DISY government with its policies and philosophy is resulting in new negative records being registered on issues relating to equality and parity.
AKEL will request that a discussion be carried out on the Report in the Parliamentary Committee on Equal Opportunities between Men and Women in order to evaluate the government’s policies and to urgently raise demands and proposals that promote gender equality at every level of society and life.
