Congratulatory Letter to the leadership of PEO in regards to the election of Pambis Kyritsis as GS of WFTU

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou sent a congratulatory letter to the leadership of PEO with the occasion of the election of comrade Pambis Kyritsis as a General Secretary of the World Trade Union Federation (WFTU). The main part of the letter follows:

“On behalf of the Central Committee of AKEL, I convey my warm congratulations to the leadership and members of PEO for the election of the former General Secretary of the Federation Pambis Kyritsis to the leadership of the World Federation of Trade Union (WFTU).

The election of Pambis Kyritsis to the highest post of the WFTU, as General Secretary, is a great honor, not only for PEO but also for Cyprus itself. It reflects the prestige and the profound appreciation that PEO enjoys within the WFTU, which today rallies in its ranks more than 110 million working people in 133 countries.

It is a recognition of the long-standing contribution of PEO and the trade union movement in our country to the struggles of the international class-based trade union movement. Since the foundation of the WFTU to the present day, PEO has been TAKING the path of defending working people’s rights.

The 18th Congress of the WFTU now represents an important historical milestone. We become one with the goals that have been set for the protection of collective agreements, for dignified wages, for safety and health conditions.

We express our solidarity with the struggles of the working people in Cyprus and around the world.”
