Anti-war – Anti-imperialist march
AKEL co organized an Anti-war – Anti-imperialist march and event on Friday the 18th of May in view of the NATO Summit on the 20th May in Chicago. The march and event were co-organized along with PEO (Pancyprian Labor Federation), United Cyprus Party (BKP), New Cyprus Party (YKP), Revolutionary Labor Syndicates Trade Union (DEV-IS), Turkishcypriot Teachers Trade Union (KTOS) and the Turkishcypriot High School Teachers Trade Union (KTOESOS).
AKEL along with the turkishcypriot progressive forces of this island and the class-orientated trade union of PEO, once more have stood clearly against a new intervention in the region aiming at sharing the spoils and at serving the imperialist interests.
We have expressed our diachronic position of supporting peace in Cyprus and the world as well supporting the independence of the peoples. Our diachronic position is that the peoples should be protagonists of the developments in their country and no one else should be left to decide over the future of their country.
The peaceful forces around the world must send a strong message against the invasive plans in the region and elsewhere, to unite our forces over the struggle for peace, against the policy of the “New Order” and the plans of NATO.
