AKEL’s recent international activity

cc AKEL ezekiaThe member of the Central Committee of AKEL Yiorgos Koukoumas departed today for Spain to participate in the deliberations of the 3rd Mediterranean Conference of the Left that will take place on 31st March-2nd April 2017 in Malaga, Spain.

The Mediterranean Conference of the Left is being organized by the Party of the European Left (where AKEL has the status of an observer party). Left and progressive parties from both sides of the Mediterranean will participate in the Conference. The subject of the Conference is the exchange of views and experiences with regards the geo-political situation in the region, the socio-economic condition and struggles of the peoples in the EU member-states and the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

Yiorgos Koukoumas will participate in the discussion “Geostrategic Conflicts in the Mediterranean” on the problems and prospects arising from the exploitation of the natural resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus.

In addition, Elias Demetriou, member of the International Relations Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL, departed today for Italy to represent AKEL in the Congress of the Communist Refoundation Party of Italy. The Congress is being held on 31st March – 2nd April 2017 in the city of Spoleto.
