AKEL supports the struggle of workers in public hospitals for a collective agreement

21 October 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

AKEL stands by the struggle of health professionals and workers in public hospitals for the drawing up of a collective labour agreement. It is to say the least contradictory, on the one hand, for an organisation belonging to the state that says it wants to promote collective agreements and, on the other hand it itself does not have a collective agreement.

That is why we are currently facing the possibility of a nationwide strike by all health professionals and workers in public hospitals.

Six years after the passing of the legislation for the autonomy of public hospitals and after repeated promises by Ministers of Health, the government, the Ministry of Health and the leadership of the State Health services OKYPY, which they themselves appointed, are failing to ensure the support and adequate staffing of public hospitals and the regulation of labour relations in them.

The Christodoulides government must give an answer to society with practical actions if it really wants public hospitals and with what character.
