AKEL MP Aristos Damianou expressed his satisfaction that glaring cases that were involved in the government’s “Cyprus Investment Programme” were avoided in the appointment of the Anti-Corruption Authority members.

Speaking to ‘Astra’ radio, he stressed that among the names on the list were a top executive of a big construction business group who was involved in the ‘golden passports’ scheme, as well as a former top executive of a firm that issued many passports.

Aristos Damianou clarified that he did not question the integrity of anyone, but pointed out that there would have been no element of objective impartiality. In addition, he explained that these people would commence their work with suspicion because of their legitimate business activities.

A.Damianou underlined that the appointments of these persons were avoided thanks to the interventions that were made.

The AKEL MP wished the President and members of the Authority good work, stressing that they must not be caught up in the cogs of the establishment and bureaucracy.
