Joint conclusion that stagnation and deadlock do not help in the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem
Statements by the General Secretary of AKEL on the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece
20 April 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
We had a very constructive and positive meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Mr. Giorgos Gerapetritis. We exchanged views on the current phase of the Cyprus problem in view of developments in the broader region of the Middle East.
The common conclusion is that the ongoing deadlock and stagnation surrounding the Cyprus problem do not help in creating those preconditions and prospects for breaking the deadlock, for the continuation of the negotiations from where they left off [at Crans Montana] with the aim of completing the effort that began many years ago, so that we may reach a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem, which will put an end to the occupation and reunite the country and the people on the agreed basis of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality.
We agreed with the Minister to continue our contact and the discussions we have on the Cyprus problem.
