The General Secretary of AKEL spoke at a big pre-election rally held in Athens

 

AKEL will have a series of important meetings with political leaders

As part of the visit of the General Secretary of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou to Athens, a pre-election political meeting was held yesterday with students and workers residing in the Greek capital.

During the meeting, the General Secretary of AKEL spoke about the upcoming parliamentary elections, emphasizing the need for AKEL to emerge stronger in Parliament, noting that, as has been proven over time, whenever AKEL is strengthened, the voice of society in Parliament is simultaneously strengthened. He also pointed out that AKEL’s strong presence serves as a guarantee for strengthening the voices of workers, young people, pensioners, small and medium-sized businesses, and all those who are struggling on a daily bases to make ends meet.

Referring to the frequently used slogan claiming that “all the political parties are the same,” the General Secretary of AKEL underlined that this does not reflect reality. “We are not all the same. If we were all the same, we would all vote the same way,” he stressed, adding that casting one’s vote has a clear social dimension. He emphasized that there are political forces whose policies support ordinary people and society, while others have always supported the banks, hedge funds, and powerful interests.

Finally, St. Stefanou stated that AKEL is the force of society, the responsible force with a vision, calling on everyone to join this effort.

The meetings of the General Secretary of AKEL will continue today in Athens, with a meeting due to take place at 10:30 a.m. with the Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis. At 12:00 p.m., S.Stefanou will meet with the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece KKE, Demetris Koutsoubas; at 1:30 p.m., with the President of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Socrates Famellos, at 3:00 p.m. with the former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, and at 6:30 p.m. he will meet with the President of PASOK – Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis.

The  meetings of the General Secretary of AKEL will conclude tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with a meeting with the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, at 11:30 a.m. with the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and at 2:00 p.m. with the Secretary of the New Left, Gabriel Sakellaridis.
