Christodoulides has no desire for a genuine investigation because he himself is ultimately implicated

12 January 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The belated resignations with justifications that provoke citizen’s intelligence do not save Mr. Christodoulides, who evidently knew about and participated in the mechanism of entanglement/interwoven interests, which was set up to serve him and his political plans. Even now, the names of the donors to the notorious Fund continue to be kept secret, and he still isn’t proceeding to abolish the Fund. Today’s report in “Politis” newspaper about a joint teleconference between former Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, the President’s Chief of Staff Charalambos Charalambous, and an “investor” disproves the government’s excuse that it had no connection with Lakkotrypis’ activities. We call on the Presidency to deny or confirm the press report in question.

It is now clear that Nicos Christodoulides has no desire for a real investigation and accountability because he himself is ultimately implicated.

Society is wondering what the Attorney General is doing. Is he investigating the scandal or giving legal advice to those involved?

Where is the Police?

Why hasn’t the Financial Intelligence Unit of Cyprus (MOKAS) already taken action?

When will the Anti-Corruption Authority act?

AKEL and society as a whole are sending a message to all these institutions that they themselves are also under scrutiny. The General Secretary of AKEL is pointing this out to these institutions in his letters.

Now everyone realizes that Mr. Christodoulides, who was preaching about transparency (during the presidential election campaign), is proving to be a continuator of the most rotten establishment order. Instead of protecting the country and the state, he is damaging and humiliating them.
