The result of the French elections is a promising development in the battle against the far right

The result of the second round of the parliamentary elections in France is a promising development in the fight against the far right in Europe and the world.

The French people, with its increased participation in the elections, have blocked the way for the far right by preventing Le Pen’s party from controlling the National Assembly, which would have opened the way for it to take over the government of the country. The formation of the New People’s Front by the French Communist Party, the France Unbowed, the Socialist Party and the country’s Ecologists played a decisive role in this development. Despite the different ideological starting points and programmatic differences, the will not to surrender the country to the darkness of racism, hatred and authoritarianism prevailed.

AKEL welcomes the result of the French elections and the will of the French people to protect democracy, human rights and the social achievements of their country.

At the same time, it stresses that the battle of the far right is simultaneously a battle against the system itself and the causes that give birth to and reproduce the far right and its ideological concepts, a battle against the policies that increase inequalities and poverty.

AKEL sent messages of congratulations to the French Communist Party and to France Unbowed.
