From the very first moment, AKEL stood by the victims of yesterday’s fires in the community of Farmakas

AKEL Parliamentary Spokesperson Giorgos Loukaides visited the community of Farmakas yesterday to be briefed about the developments regarding the fire, while today, a delegation headed by Aristos Damianou Chairperson of the Parliamentary Internal Affairs Committee and member of the Political Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL visited the affected area.

AKEL wishes to express its solidarity with all those people who have been affected by the devastating fires, but also its gratitude to all those who have worked and are working tirelessly particularly over the past few days to confront the raging fires.

AKEL calls on the government to immediately take every measure to restore the supply of water and electricity to the affected agricultural lands.

The issues relating to operational preparedness, the timely intervention and prevention of fires will be discussed in the Parliamentary Internal Affairs Committee next Thursday, on AKEL’s initiative.

The delegation of AKEL included the District Secretary of AKEL Nicosia – Kyrenia and MP Christos Christofias, the Head of the Energy-Environment Sector of AKEL Christina Nicolaou and the Organisational Secretary of POGO Women’s Movement Eleni Evagorou.
