The DISY government’s silence over wiretapping betrays guilt
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Giorgos Koukoumas
1 November 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The European Parliament’s Committee of Inquiry looking into the wiretappings/surveillances case begins its contacts in Cyprus today, but the government insists that it doesn’t concern Cyprus. The revelations are mounting and the web of the wiretapping/surveillance network in Greece and Cyprus is being unraveled, but the government and the ruling DISY party think they can buy time by remaining silent.
- Did the Justice Minister refuse or not to meet the European Parliament’s Committee of Inquiry?
- Will DISY give a reply or not with regards the press report in the Athens newspaper ‘To Vima’ about their former official, right-hand man of DISY President Averof Neofytou, who it is alleged that he is a protagonist in the case?
- How does the government comment on today’s press report of “Politis” newspaper which refers to a demonstration of surveillance software in the centre of Nicosia just a few days ago, during which the conversations of hundreds of unsuspecting citizens of the area were intercepted?
The questions are merciless. The silence of the government and ruling DISY party only betrays guilt.
