AKEL Giorgos Loukaides: What has undermined the president’s credibility is the adventurous handling of the Cyprus problem

15 November 2021 ‘Astra’ radio station

President Anastasiades ultimately risks going down in history as the President of partition, AKEL Parliamentary Representative Giorgos Loukaides pointed out on ‘Astra’ radio station.

Speaking to the Morning Edition of ‘Astra’ and responding to the President’s claim that certain people are undermining him and the cause of Cyprus, Giorgos Loukaides said that what has indeed undermined the President’s credibility is the adventurous handlings pursued on the Cyprus problem, with his backtracking and contradictions, which have reached the point of him flirting with a two state solution and subsequently talking in public and not behind the scenes about a unitary solution.

Regarding the President’s reference to the fact that he will speak at the end, the AKEL Parliamentary Representative pointed out that President Anastasiades did not denounce UN Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide for what he said JUST a few days after the Crans Montana conference, suggesting that President Anastasiades bears responsibilities for the collapse of the talks at Crans Montana. The President, Giorgos Loukaides noted, never responded to Mr. Eide’s suggestions, nor did he ever question the Report submitted by the Secretary General of the UN which apportions responsibilities on both sides for the collapse of the procedure at Crans Montana.
