AKEL MEP G.Georgiou: The President is again raising a false alarm and threatening to engage in heroics with the veto

President Anastasiades is again raising a false alarm and threatening to engage in heroics with the veto, AKEL MEP George Georgiou noted.
Speaking to the morning edition of ‘Astra’ radio, G.Georgiou pointed out that the President will not be able exercise the veto because of the huge economic geopolitical interests of the EU, but also because of the President’s unreliability with regards his intention to enter into substantive negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
The AKEL MEP said that the basket of gifts to be given by the EU to Turkey is ready, it is just a bit wrapped in a towel and it will be uncovered so that the gifts can be given to Turkey because, as he said, this is what the commercial, economic and geopolitical interests of various EU countries dictate.
He noted that the situation is extremely difficult, saying that the Europeans have managed to disconnect the Cyprus problem from the normalization of Turkey-Greece relations.
The AKEL MEP also pointed out that the only solution is for the international community and the UN Secretary General to be convinced that President Anastasiades accepts the solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality and with the use of the natural gas as a catalyst for the solution of the Cyprus problem without undermining our sovereign rights.
G.Georgiou indicated that the negotiations must be resumed from the point where they had remained at Crans Montana and that the convergences recorded should be accepted.
The AKEL MEP also referred to AKEL’s proposal on the Cyprus problem.
