Cyprus a bridge of peace of the peoples and not a field of military maneuvers for foreign armies

The presence of Israeli warplanes over the skies of Cyprus serves neither positions of principle, nor our people’s interests. Cyprus’ military collaborations and military maneuvers with armies of countries that have for years now been committing bloodshed and systematically violating of international law in our region do not strengthen, but on the contrary weaken our country’s position.
The Anastasiades government, with its strategic decision to align our country in the US-Israel plans for the Eastern Mediterranean, is creating more dangers and not ensuring more security for our homeland and people. It is causing problems to Cyprus’ relations with other states of the region.
For years now, the Anastasiades-DISY government has been cultivating the theory that military cooperations with Israel and the United States will shield the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus from Turkish aggression and upgrade our country’s geopolitical position. However, the Cypriot people now know very well that these formations have neither curbed Turkish aggression, nor prevented the illegal Turkish drillings in the Cypriot EEZ.
AKEL stresses that Cyprus’ role is upgraded when it operates as a bridge of peace and tolerance – not when it becomes a field of military maneuvers for foreign armies.
