Condolences of the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL A.Kyprianou for the passing away of Dr. Saeb Erakat, General Secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO)

Your Excellency,

It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the passing of Dr. Saeb Erekat, General Secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organisation and Chief Negotiator.

His passing comes at a difficult stage of the Palestinian people’s struggle in defence of their just cause of freedom and independent statehood.

Dr. Erekat’s life-long devotion to assert the national and human rights of the Palestinian people, the end of Israeli occupation, the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian State on the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital will continue to inspire the Palestinians and the international solidarity movement.

I take the opportunity, to reiterate AKEL’s solidarity with your just struggle in these critical phase.

Please, accept our sincere condolences with the request to convey them also to the Palestinian leadership and PLO, and Dr. Erekat’s family.
