The government ruling forces prefer humiliation than taking on responsibility

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

The government exposed Cyprus internationally and left our country unprotected

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 4th September 2020, Nicosia

Cyprus is being shamed internationally because of the “golden passport” business set up by the Anastasiades-DISY government and instead of taking on its responsibilities, it is constantly trying to confuse the people by making moves to distract it.

First, the Anastasiades-DISY government made an intervention to a foreign government pleading for journalistic revelations to be blocked.

It then decided that the press reports were Turkish propaganda.

It then concluded that it had examined the cases and found nothing wrong.

It subsequently sent the police to Parliament, because it remembered the leaking of information.

It then decided to appoint another investigation committee in line with its familiar practice and start blackmailing opposition political forces.

It eventually concluded that Christofias was to blame, even though the Anastasiades-DISY government has been in power for eight years.

It is evident that the government ruling forces have run out of excuses and lies and prefer humiliation instead of taking on responsibility.

However, there is only one reality: the big problems, like the international shaming of Cyprus, started during the Anastasiades-DISY government.

When for several years the Republic of Cyprus was being denounced and dragged through the mud, when international organizations and European institutions were warning Cyprus about the development of the ‘golden passports’ program, the government was completely indifferent. It wasn’t admitting the problems. This is how Cyprus was targeted. The government exposed Cyprus internationally and left our country unprotected.
