AKEL thanks the Institute of Neurology & Genetics for its contribution to confronting the pandemic

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 3rd June 2020, Nicosia

A delegation of AKEL, headed by the General Secretary of the Party Andros Kyprianou, paid a visit to the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.

Andros Kyprianou expressed a big thank you to the people of the Institute who worked selflessly and tirelessly, particularly during the initial stage, to help confront the coronavirus.

In his statements, the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL noted that, “it is no exaggeration to say that it is their role, together with health professionals – and I am referring to the doctors, the nurses and all the other staff working in hospitals – who have contributed tremendously so that we could successfully tackle the pandemic”.

The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, he added, needs the strongest possible support from the state to be able to carry out its role, not only in periods of pandemics, but with regards the more general role it plays on health issues.

“For that reason, AKEL appeals to the government to provide even more support to the Institute of Neurology and Genetics so that it can play its role even more effectively.” The health sector, together with the sectors of education and social care, is extremely important for any society that wants to respect itself and considers itself a modern society, A.Kyprianou pointed out.

“And we want the state – if it wants to be called a truly modern state – to invest in health, education and social care. Only in this way will those conditions be created that will permit everyone to have a better standard of living.”

Finally, the General Secretary of AKEL congratulated and thanked the scientists of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics for their efforts and contribution.
