AKEL in solidarity with Cuba demands the immediate end to the 60 year old US blockade
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 10th April 2020, Nicosia
The coronavirus pandemic has revealed, among other things, glaring phenomena of a lack of solidarity between the states of the world, and even between member states of the same union, as in the case of the European Union. At the same time, the entire planet is witnessing the humanitarian internationalism and solidarity that Cuba is expressing, through its medical missions in dozens of countries around the world, including countries of the West as well which for decades have been attacking and undermining the Cuban Revolution and Cuba. Everyone knows that for decades thousands of Cuban doctors and nurses have been assisting dozens of countries all over the world that were affected by natural disasters and epidemics.
At precisely the same time when universal solidarity is needed, the US Trump government has decided to toughen the economic, commercial and financial inhumane blockade of Cuba, which the United States has been imposing for decades. Even during this period of the pandemic, the United States have been blocking supplies of medical equipment, respirators and diagnostic test kits from reaching Cuba, while simultaneously launching a campaign to slander and defame Cuba and its doctors in the international mass media.
AKEL expresses its unreserved solidarity with Cuba and its people. We salute Cuba’s stance, which during these difficult times humanity is going through, is an example of solidarity, internationalism and a humane approach. At the same time, we join our voice with everyone all over the world demanding the immediate end to the blockade of Cuba imposed by the United States, as demanded clearly by dozens of Resolutions approved by the United Nations.
