Are we perhaps finally paying the price for the government’s one-sided and one-dimensional foreign policy?
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou on the change in the Russia-Cyprus Double Taxation Agreement

Ιf the Russian Federation proceeds to a change of the Agreement on avoiding Double Taxation with Cyprus it will provoke very serious problems to the Cyprus economy – in addition to all what the pandemic is already causing.
The relevant announcements made by the Russian authorities, and Russian President Vladimir Putin himself, with a special reference to Cyprus, highlight the seriousness and urgency of the matter.
The government must act immediately to protect the Cyprus economy. Of course, two questions arise:
- Why does the change of the Russian Federation’s specific policy has Cyprus as its first and, so far, sole recipient?
- How much persuasiveness has the Cypriot government still have to convince the Russian Federation not to change the Agreement, when as a result of various decisions and actions it is attaching Cyprus to the US and NATO war machine and getting Cyprus to fall in line with the demands of the Western forces that our country should turn against Russia?
Citizens are justifiably asking: are we perhaps finally paying the price for the one-sided and one-dimensional foreign policy being pursued by the government ruling circles?
