Eurostat figures shatters government’s “success story” completely
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 16 April 2019, Nicosia
Yet another statistic released by the European Statistical Office shatters the government’s much-advertised “success story” completely.
The Statistical Service reveals that working people’s salaries and benefits in Cyprus are 40.5% lower than the EU average and 46.7% lower than the average across Eurozone countries. These statistics confirm that the redistribution of wealth in Cyprus is in the interest of the privileged few at the expense of the many and society. The unfair distribution of wealth is closely and inextricably linked with the neo-liberal policies pursued by the Anastasiades-DISY government. The benefit resulting from the belated chance and circumstantial growth stemming from these policies ultimately goes to the privileged few, not to the many.
Citizens now know firsthand that the government cares for the few, big private interests, not for the public interest and society’s well-intentioned interest.
