AKEL on the decision condemning racist comments online

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 10 January 2019, Nicosia

The court decision to find a person guilty of spreading racist comments online for the very first time in Cyprus constitutes an important first positive step. We expect the State and the Ministry of Justice to be much more determined in combating phenomena of hate rhetoric that are made in the public sphere.

We expect that zero tolerance is shown to anyone expressing racist and intolerant messages, whether they are a citizen or a public figure.
