Today’s young people live worse than previous generations

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou on the Anastasiades-DISY government’s anti-youth policy

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18 December 2018, Nicosia

The government and ruling forces may be lauding and praising themselves for their supposed “success story”, but the stark reality citizens are living is demolishing the myths being portrayed.

EU statistics show that our young people are one of the main victims of the government’s anti-social policy.

Approximately one-third of young people aged between 16-29 are at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

Seven out of ten young men and eight out of ten young women live with their parents because they cannot start their own lives on their own feet.

This is the result of the policy pursued by the Anastasiades-DISY government, which has deregulated labour relations with wages of 600 and 700 Euros that are being offered on the labour market.

This situation came about as a result of the government’s dismantling of housing programs.

Today’s young people live worse than previous generations, and this is happening for the very first time in our country.

This is due to the policy implemented by the government and ruling forces who are cutting salaries, housing programs and social welfare, ruining young people’s dreams, aspirations and hopes for a better life.
