The 2019 State Budget is without a vision for growth and development

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou in Parliament

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 29 October 2018, Nicosia

The 2019 State Budget is without a vision for growth and development. Expenditure on projects for growth is reduced in addition to the reductions that have been recorded in previous years. We point out that the percentage rate of the implementation of growth/developmental expenditures with this government remains stagnant.

The budget is without a social vision, given that there are no policies and actions to provide support for vulnerable social groups and low income groups, as well as small and medium-sized groups. There are no actions to address the risk of poverty, the bridging of the gap in incomes and the housing problem.

It seems that the government is not worried about the “bubbles” in the economy. It isn’t concerned about high prices and the increase in corruption. The government prefers to engage in arithmetis, ignoring citizens and their real needs.
