The Government’s response – via the Government Spokesman – to the relentless questions raised with regards the revelation that there was a secret US helicopter base in Cyprus from 2013 until 2018 has shocked all citizens.
What did the government say when asked about the matter? “Anyone who has questions should ask the American authorities to get answers.”
We wonder: Is there a responsible government in this country or are the Americans responsible to whom the government refers us to for any answers?
The way the government approaches the issue is truly unacceptable and condemnable.
We once again put the following questions to the government, which first and foremost must give answers to citizens:
- Did the government know about the existence of the secret American base in Cyprus?
- Did the government consent to this base or not?
- If the government knew – and moreover – if the government agreed to the creation of the base, why did it keep it a secret? And why, finally, did it grant such a permission?
- How many other such issues does the government hide from citizens?
We repeat that the government has to give answers.
