Dear Comrade Miguel Diaz-Canel,

On behalf of the Central Committee of AKEL and personally myself, I extend to you warmest congratulations on your election to the high responsibility of President of the State Council of the Republic of Cuba.

The conclusion of the electoral process with your election at the National Assembly of the People’s Power, has been one with the broad participation of the Cuban people at all social and political levels.  Through this process the Cuban people has confirmed its support to the revolutionary process and determination to defend its choice to continue building socialism in Cuba.

Your election along with the other Comrades to the State Council, comes amidst dangerous developments in different parts of the world, our region of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East being one of them.  We welcome Cuba’s consistent position of respect of the UN Charter and International Law as the means of de-escalation and solution of conflicts.  I take this opportunity to express our gratitude for your country’s consistent support to our struggle for a just solution of the Cyprus problem, for the reunification of our country and our people.

From our part, we reiterate our solidarity with the Cuban people and your struggle to defend your path of socialist development, the independence and territorial integrity of your country, to stop all kind of foreign interventions. We look forward to our cooperation at all levels to the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples, and for the prevalence of social justice and peace in the world.
