AKEL denounces the Turkish invasion of Syria’s Afrin region
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 22nd January 2018, Nicosia
AKEL denounces in the strongest possible terms Turkey’s military invasion of the Afrin region of Syria, controlled by the forces of the Kurdish Democratic Union (PYD).
We denounce the violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria and the bloodshed that it has provoked. We join our voice with the voices of peace-loving forces demanding an immediate end to the invasion and the withdrawal of the Turkish troops.
We express our solidarity towards the Syrian people and their right to decide themselves their own future, as well as with the Kurds both in Syria and in Turkey, which are facing the Turkish government’s constant threats.
Turkey’s aggression towards Syria reiterates yet again the need for our country to get rid of the occupying troops and the Turkish presence in Cyprus. It is easier for a new possible adventure by Turkey in Cyprus to take place as long as the partitionist status quo continues.
