Anastasiades’ pledges on Culture were also devoid of content
Culture Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL, 6TH December 2017, Nicosia
Nicos Anastasiades’ pre-election pledges on Culture during the 2013 presidential election campaign have proven to be beyond any doubt whatsoever that they too were devoid of content. The reduction in the funds allocated for Culture has reached almost 30%. Artistic creation has been irreparably damaged, while the first decision approved by the government rulers was the abolition of the honorary allowances for the people of arts and letters, including pensioners.
The infrastructure projects are non-existent, given that the Modern State Library and Contemporary Art Gallery are elusive dreams. Even the infrastructure projects that we were obliged to create as a state due to “Pafos European Capital of Culture for 2017 ” will be inaugurated in the coming days, that is, on the expiration date of the activities for the European Capital of Culture!
The declassification of the ancient monuments in the Municipality of Yeroskipou for the construction of a hotel, but also the inclusion of the site for the construction of the Archaeological Museum in the state plots for sale reflect vividly the deprecating policy pursued by the government and ruling forces towards Culture and our artistic creators.
