AKEL denounces terrorist attack in Barcelona

AKEL expresses its grief and solidarity with the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Barcelona. We denounce the shameless violent attacks that have once again spread terror, this time in Europe. For the past two months, they have been preceded by suicide attacks in Syria, Pakistan and Jordan.
Everyone needs to be rallied in effectively combating the violence and terrorism. However, in this case too, the attention must turn to the social and economic causes of these phenomena. Only then can the combating of these phenomena be decisive. It has been evident for some years now that it is the wars and inequalities that are giving birth to terrorists because they create the fertile ground for the development of fundamentalism and racism. It is precisely in this direction that the efforts to tackle the problem must focus on.
