AKEL isn’t comfortable with the continuation of the occupation – Others, it seems, are content with it

DIKO once again is trying to adjust reality to suit its policy.
The Attorney General himself replied to DIKO that it is not practice for the House of Representatives to request a legal opinion from the Legal Service. The Attorney General stated in his own words: “The Attorney General is not the legal adviser of the Members of the House of Representatives, nor any parliamentary party or the House itself”.
AKEL from the very first moment with honesty and forthrightness disagreed with the vote in favour of honouring the Enosis referendum. We issued a warning about the damage this would cause to the efforts to achieve a solution of the Cyprus problem. Regrettably AKEL’s stand was vindicated and the damage has been caused.
A responsible and dignified position is to correct the error that was done and to annul precisely what gave ammunition to Turkey.
The Republic of Cyprus is not in danger from the talks, but from the perpetuation of the occupation and partition; it is threatened by the continuation of the status quo that serves Turkey.
AKEL isn’t comfortable with the continuation of the occupation. Others, it seems, are content with it.
